About Purple saxifrage
Saxifraga oppositifolia, known as 'purple saxifrage' or 'rødsildre' in Norway, is a small, hardy alpine plant forming dense mats of tiny leaves. In spring, it becomes covered in vibrant purple or pink flowers, creating a stunning display of color in rock gardens, alpine beds, or as ground cover in high-altitude areas.

Care tips
This plant thrives in full sun to light partial shade and requires extremely well-drained soil, preferably poor in nutrients and with a good proportion of grit or sand. Once established, it is drought-tolerant but appreciates moderate watering during dry spells, avoiding waterlogging which can be fatal. A common mistake is planting it in heavy or clay soils, which retain too much moisture and lead to root rot.
