About Thrift
Armeria pseudarmeria, commonly known as false thrift or Madeiran thrift, is a compact perennial plant forming dense cushions of bright green, linear leaves. It produces sturdy flower stalks topped with spherical clusters of white or pink, clover-like flowers, blooming from late spring well into summer. This plant is ideal for rock gardens, path edges, or as ground cover in coastal or dry gardens, adding a touch of color and resilience.
Native range
Western Europe, specifically the Iberian Peninsula and Northwest Africa.
Care tips
This thrift thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, even poor or sandy ones, being very drought-tolerant once established. Water moderately, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings to prevent waterlogging, to which it is very sensitive. A common mistake is overwatering, which can lead to root rot; it prefers dryness to constant moisture. It does not require frequent fertilization and is quite resistant to pests and diseases.
