Care, watering, light and tips for Hardy germander on Floravia.
Teucrium x lucidrys is a vigorous, compact hybrid resulting from a cross between wall germander (T. chamaedrys) and shining germander (T. lucidum). It forms a low-growing evergreen shrub with aromatic, dark green foliage and attractive pink-purple flowers that are highly appealing to pollinators. This plant is perfect for edgings, rock gardens, or as ground cover in Mediterranean and xeriscape settings.
Mediterranean region of Europe and North Africa
It thrives in full sun for optimal flowering and dense growth. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant, so watering should be moderate, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings; overwatering is its main adversary. It prefers well-drained soils, ideally alkaline to neutral. A common mistake is planting it in heavy or poorly drained soils, which can lead to root rot.
