Care, watering, light and tips for Rhododendron on Floravia.
Rhododendron pulchrum, commonly known as Joli Rhododendron, is a medium-sized evergreen shrub prized for its spectacular blooms in shades of pink, lilac, and magenta. Its flowers, often with distinctive blotches, appear in spring, creating a stunning visual impact. It is ideal for shaded gardens, woodland borders, or as a focal plant in large pots on protected patios.
Native to China and Taiwan.
It requires a location with indirect light or partial shade, avoiding direct midday sun. Watering should be regular, keeping the substrate moist but not waterlogged, especially during flowering and in summer; use lime-free water. It needs an acidic, well-drained substrate rich in organic matter; specific ericaceous composts are ideal. A common mistake is planting it in alkaline soils, which leads to chlorosis and poor development.
