About Nopal cactus
Opuntia feroacantha, commonly known as Red-spined Nopal, is a shrubby or tree-like cactus native to Baja California Sur, Mexico. It is characterized by its large, rounded pads (cladodes) covered in bright red or orange spines, giving it a highly ornamental appearance. This plant is ideal for xeriscape gardens, rockeries, or as a striking standalone specimen in large pots where its vibrant spines can be the focal point.

Care tips
This plant requires full sun exposure for optimal growth and intense spine coloration. Watering should be infrequent, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, and almost non-existent in winter to prevent rot. Use a very well-draining substrate, specifically formulated for cacti and succulents. The most common mistake is overwatering, which can quickly lead to root and cladode rot.
