About Prickly pear
Opuntia elatior, also known as 'Oponce élévé' or 'Elevated Prickly Pear', is a shrubby or arborescent cactus belonging to the Cactaceae family, native to the Antilles and northern South America. It is characterized by its oval and flattened cladodes (pads), which range from bluish-green to reddish, covered with spines and glochids. This is a robust and vigorous growing species that looks spectacular in desert gardens, rockeries, or as a standalone specimen in large pots.
