Care, watering, light and tips for Rose pincushion cactus on Floravia.
Mammillaria zeilmanniana, commonly known as Biznaguita, is a charming small cactus with a columnar growth habit that forms dense clusters. Its stems are covered with short, numerous spines that can be white, yellow, or reddish, and it produces a ring of beautiful deep magenta flowers around its apex in spring and summer. It is ideal for cactus collections, rock gardens, or as an indoor plant in small, bright pots.
Mexico, specifically in the states of Guanajuato and San Luis Potosí.
It requires direct or very bright sunlight for most of the day to bloom abundantly and maintain its compact shape. Watering should be moderate in spring and summer, allowing the substrate to dry completely between waterings, and almost none in winter to prevent rot. Use a very porous, cactus-specific substrate that ensures excellent drainage. Avoid excess moisture, especially at the roots and around the plant's neck, as it is its main enemy.
