About Melocactus peruvianus
Melocactus peruvianus, known as the Peruvian melon cactus, is a medium-sized globular or columnar cactus that develops a woolly and spiny apical cephalium upon maturity. Its robust spines and spherical shape make it an eye-catching specimen in cactus collections and rock gardens. It is ideal for warm and dry climates, standing out in desert gardens or as an indoor plant in well-drained pots.

Care tips
It requires direct and intense sunlight for optimal growth and cephalium formation. Watering should be sparse, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, and almost none in winter. Use a very porous and well-draining substrate, specific for cacti. The most common mistake is overwatering, which leads to root and stem base rot.
