Care, watering, light and tips for Mexican pincushion on Floravia.
Mammillaria magnimamma, also known as "vårtkaktus" (wart cactus), is a globose to slightly cylindrical cactus that forms dense clusters over time. Its prominent tubercles and short spines make it an attractive addition to cactus collections and rock gardens, offering a sculptural and low-maintenance appeal. It looks spectacular in individual pots or in compositions with other succulents, highlighting its peculiar form.
Central and eastern Mexico
It requires direct and intense sunlight for compact growth and optimal flowering, although it can tolerate some light shade during the hottest hours of summer. Watering should be sparse; allow the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, especially in winter when it goes dormant. Use a very well-draining substrate, specific for cacti and succulents. A common mistake is overwatering, which can lead to rot at the base of the plant.
