About Harrisia pomanensis
Harrisia pomanensis, also known as krusstjärnkaktus, is a slow-growing, columnar cactus, branching from the base, which can reach several meters in height. Its stems are grayish-green, with prominent ribs and robust spines. It is an ideal plant for desert gardens, rockeries, or as a solitary specimen in large pots, adding an exotic and sculptural touch.
Native range
Northwest Argentina, southeast Bolivia, and western Paraguay.
Care tips
It requires full sun for optimal growth and abundant flowering. Watering should be moderate during summer, allowing the substrate to dry completely between waterings, and scarce or none in winter. Use a very well-draining substrate specific for cacti, with coarse sand and little organic matter. A common mistake is overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
