Care, watering, light and tips for Artemisia genipi on Floravia.
Artemisia genipi, known as Ährige Edelraute or 'Genepi', is a perennial alpine plant, famous for its distinctive aroma and medicinal properties. It forms compact clumps of finely divided, silvery foliage with small yellow flowers appearing in spikes. It's ideal for rock gardens, alpine gardens, or as an aromatic plant in borders, adding a wild and elegant touch.
European Alps, primarily in the Western and Central Alps
It requires full sun and very well-drained soil, preferably sandy or gravelly, similar to its natural high-mountain habitat. Watering should be minimal once established, as it is very drought-tolerant; overwatering is the most common and fatal mistake. Avoid heavy, wet soils, which can lead to root rot, and it does not require frequent fertilization.
