This plant prefers full sun to partial shade and is highly tolerant of soil types, though it thrives best in well-drained, moderately fertile substrates. Watering should be moderate, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings, as it tolerates drought quite well once established. A common mistake is attempting to completely eradicate it if its presence is desired, as its resilience makes it very persistent; instead, its spread can be controlled by regularly mowing the flower heads before they produce seeds.
