About Dandelion
Taraxacum maurophyllum, known as Purpursværtet vejmælkebøtte in Danish, is a dandelion species belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is characterized by its dark green to purplish leaves and bright yellow flowers, typical of the genus. Although often considered a 'weed,' its hardiness and attractive foliage can make it an interesting addition to naturalistic gardens or along roadsides where a wild touch is desired.
Care tips
This species prefers full sun for optimal growth, though it tolerates some partial shade. It is a very adaptable plant regarding watering, enduring periods of drought once established, but benefits from regular watering in dry climates. It thrives in a wide range of soils, as long as they have good drainage; it is not particular about the substrate type. A common mistake is to try to completely eradicate it if a formal garden is desired, as it is very persistent and can re-sprout easily.
