Care, watering, light and tips for Basket of gold on Floravia.
Aurinia saxatilis, commonly known as Basket of Gold, is a low-growing perennial plant that forms dense mounds of grey-green foliage. In spring, it becomes covered in a profusion of small, bright yellow flowers, creating a spectacular golden carpet. It is ideal for rock gardens, path edges, or for trailing over low walls, adding a vibrant splash of color.
Eastern Europe and Asia Minor
It requires full sun for optimal flowering and prefers well-drained soils, even poor or calcareous ones. Watering should be moderate, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, as it is drought-tolerant once established. Avoid waterlogging at all costs, as it is prone to root rot in wet conditions. A light trim after flowering can encourage more compact growth and a possible second flush of blooms.
