Care, watering, light and tips for Cryptanthus bromelioides on Floravia.
Cryptanthus bromelioides, commonly known as Earth Star, is a small terrestrial bromeliad prized for its vibrant, often patterned rosette of leaves. Its foliage typically displays shades of green, red, or brown, sometimes with contrasting stripes or margins, making it an excellent color accent in terrariums, indoor plant arrangements, or as a groundcover in warm climates. Its compact growth and attractive leaves make it ideal for small spaces or adding an exotic touch.

It requires bright, indirect light; intense direct sunlight can scorch its leaves. Keep the substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Use a well-draining substrate, such as a bromeliad or orchid mix, with good organic matter content. A common mistake is watering the center of the rosette like other epiphytic bromeliads; Cryptanthus is terrestrial and prefers watering at the substrate level.
