About Lemon myrtle
Backhousia citriodora, commonly known as Australian Lemon Myrtle, is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to the rainforests of Queensland, Australia. It is prized for its bright green, lanceolate leaves that release an intense lemon fragrance when crushed, and for its clusters of creamy white flowers in summer. It makes an excellent ornamental plant for Mediterranean, subtropical gardens, or as a potted plant on patios and terraces, providing fragrance and an exotic touch.

Care tips
It requires full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soils rich in organic matter, ranging from slightly acidic to neutral. Watering should be regular, keeping the substrate moist but not waterlogged, especially during dry and hot periods; it is sensitive to prolonged drought. A common mistake is planting it in heavy, poorly draining soils, which can lead to root rot. Protect it from intense cold, as it does not tolerate severe frosts.
