Care, watering, light and tips for Surinam powderpuff on Floravia.
Calliandra surinamensis, also known as 'småbladig kalliandra' or Surinam powderpuff, is an ornamental shrub or small tree from the Fabaceae family, valued for its striking flowers with pink and white stamens resembling pompoms. Its foliage is delicate and feathery, and it blooms almost continuously in warm climates, adding an exotic touch to tropical and subtropical gardens, patios, and as a large potted plant.
South America (Brazil and the Guianas)
It requires full sun exposure for abundant flowering, although it tolerates light partial shade. Watering should be regular, keeping the substrate moist but not waterlogged, especially during flowering periods. It prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soils. A common mistake is a lack of pruning, which can lead to leggy growth; prune it to maintain its shape and encourage denser blooming.
