About Genista hystrix
Genista hystrix, commonly known as Spiny Broom, is a dense, thorny shrub endemic to the the Iberian Peninsula, forming globe-shaped mounds up to 1 meter tall. Its small, deciduous leaves and bright yellow flowers, appearing in spring, make it ideal for rock gardens, dry slopes, or as a defensive plant. It adds a wild and rustic touch, perfectly adapting to Mediterranean landscapes.

Care tips
It requires full sun for abundant flowering and optimal development. It is extremely drought-tolerant once established, so watering should be scarce, especially in summer. It prefers poor, well-drained, and preferably acidic or neutral soils, tolerating even stony ones. By all means, avoid overwatering and waterlogged soils, as it is prone to root rot.
