Ligustrum lucidum, commonly known as glossy privet, is a large evergreen tree or shrub from the Oleaceae family, valued for its dense, shiny dark green foliage. Its oval, glossy leaves, along with fragrant white flower panicles in summer followed by black berries, make it ideal for tall hedges, privacy screens, or as an ornamental tree in spacious gardens.

It prefers full sun to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of soils, though it prefers well-drained ones. Watering should be regular during the first year to establish, then moderate, allowing the top layer of the substrate to dry between waterings. It is a resilient plant that tolerates pruning well, making it easy to maintain in the desired shape, but avoid prolonged waterlogging which can lead to root rot.
