About Living stones

Lithops marmorata, commonly known as 'marbled living stone', is a fascinating succulent native to South Africa, mimicking the appearance of its surrounding rocks for camouflage. Its fleshy, inverted-conical leaves display unique marbled patterns in shades of gray, green, or brown, with a translucent window on top that allows light to pass through. It's ideal for succulent collections, desert terrariums, or as a curious and low-maintenance addition to any sunny spot.

Care tips

It requires direct and intense sunlight for at least 4-6 hours a day to maintain its compact growth and vibrant colors. Watering should be extremely limited; only water when the old leaves have completely reabsorbed and new ones are forming, avoiding water during its winter and summer dormancy periods. Use a very well-draining substrate, such as a specific cactus and succulent mix with plenty of pumice or perlite, to prevent root rot. A common mistake to avoid is overwatering, which is the primary cause of death in Lithops.
