Anacamptis pyramidalis, commonly known as the Pyramidal Orchid, is a terrestrial orchid native to Europe and the Mediterranean, renowned for its dense, conical or pyramidal flower spikes of purple to pink blooms. Its distinctive shape makes it a charming focal point in rock gardens, natural meadows, or as part of a low-maintenance landscape designed to attract pollinators. Care tips
This orchid thrives in full sun to light partial shade and well-drained, calcareous, slightly alkaline soils. Watering should be moderate during the growing season, allowing the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings, and almost none in winter. Avoid frequent transplanting, as terrestrial orchids are sensitive to root disturbance; ideally, allow them to establish in a suitable location. A common mistake is attempting to grow it in pots with epiphytic orchid substrates, which is fatal for this terrestrial species.
