About Autumn crocus
Colchicum multiflorum, known as Many-flowered Meadow Saffron, is a charming bulbous plant that blooms in autumn, often before its leaves appear. It produces multiple cup-shaped flowers, ranging from rosy-mauve to purple, which emerge directly from the ground, creating an attractive carpet of color. It is ideal for rockeries, path edges, or naturalized in lawns where its late blooming adds interest to the garden.

Care tips
It requires a location in full sun or light partial shade and well-drained soil, preferably rich in organic matter. Watering should be moderate during its autumn flowering period if the weather is dry, but avoid waterlogging, as the bulbs can rot. A common mistake is to confuse its spring leaves with those of an Allium, but these are toxic; ensure they are not ingested. It does not need frequent fertilization; a little compost in autumn is sufficient.
