About Phoenicean juniper
Juniperus phoenicea, commonly known as Phoenician Juniper, is an evergreen shrub or small tree belonging to the Cupressaceae family, native to the Mediterranean region. It is characterized by its dense, bright green scale-like foliage, which often takes on bronzed hues in winter, and its small, reddish berry-like cones that are ornamental. It is an excellent choice for low-maintenance gardens, xeriscaping, informal hedges, or as a specimen plant in dry, rocky landscapes.

This juniper thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal growth. It is extremely drought-tolerant once established, so watering should be sparse and infrequent, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings. It prefers well-drained soils, even poor and rocky ones, adapting well to a wide range of pH. A common mistake to avoid is overwatering, which can lead to root rot, as it is adapted to arid conditions.
