Chrysophyllum cainito, known as Star Apple or Caimito, is a tropical evergreen fruit tree valued for its purple or green-skinned fruits with sweet, gelatinous pulp that reveals a star shape when cut. Its dense, glossy foliage and elegant stature make it an excellent ornamental tree for large gardens in warm climates, providing shade and exotic fruits. It is ideal for tropical orchards or as a prominent specimen in expansive landscapes where a low-maintenance, beautiful fruit tree is desired.

Care tips
It requires full sun for optimal fruiting, at least 6-8 hours daily. Watering should be regular and abundant, especially during flowering and fruiting, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. It prefers rich, well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soils; a good tropical fruit tree substrate is ideal. A common mistake is exposing it to temperatures below 5°C (41°F), as it is extremely sensitive to cold and frost, which can be fatal to the tree.
