Montia arvensis, also known as Cartilaginous Seed Montia, is a small annual plant belonging to the Montiaceae family, characterized by its delicate white or pink flowers. It grows in low mats, ideal for rock gardens or as ground cover in cool, shady areas. Its modest yet charming appearance makes it perfect for adding a natural and wild touch to small spaces.
Much of Europe and North Africa
It requires a location with partial or full shade, avoiding direct exposure to strong sun, especially in warm climates. Watering should be regular to keep the substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged, as it is sensitive to drought. It prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soils rich in organic matter. A common mistake is planting it in dry or full sun locations, which quickly weakens and kills it.
