Care, watering, light and tips for Hypericum bellum on Floravia.
Hypericum bellum, also known as "mei li jin si tao", is a deciduous or semi-evergreen ornamental shrub from the Hypericaceae family, valued for its attractive bright yellow flowers with numerous stamens. Its leaves are a deep green, often with reddish hues in autumn, making it an excellent specimen for borders, mass plantings, or as a standalone plant in temperate gardens.
Eastern Himalayas, from Nepal to southwestern China
It prefers full sun to partial shade, where it will flower more profusely. Regular watering is required to keep the substrate moist, especially during dry periods, but avoid waterlogging. It adapts well to well-drained, fertile, and slightly acidic to neutral soils. A common mistake is excessive or ill-timed pruning, which can reduce its flowering; prune lightly after flowering to maintain its shape.
